Software Instruction

Trying to “learn the computer” isn’t nearly as easy as the ads make it look, is it? The problem is that there isn’t “a way” to use a computer, there are multitudes of uses to which a computer can be put. And it sometime seems like there must be ten computer programs for each one of those uses.

Today’s computer user may be an office worker, or a mechanic; a word processor in a large corporation’s work pool, or a small business owner who needs to present their company in a business-like manner on paper. It’s what you want to use the computer for that determines what you need to learn.

There’s just one catch. You have to know an awful lot about a computer program before you can figure out the best/fastest/easiest way to get something done. Yes, computer programs are more intuitive than ever, with a lot of help built-in for new users. Unfortunately, that’s not saying a whole lot.

kamper.com offers software instruction with a difference. We teach from the user’s viewpoint. We find the easiest, quickest, smartest way to do what you need done, in the program you’re using, and teach you exactly how to use the computer like the powerful tool it is. Needs Assessment

A Needs Assessment is just what it sounds like: an assessment of the specific uses you make of your computer system and what you need to know to get the job done -- quickly and right the first time. It’s practically a truism: many self-taught computer users explore just enough to figure out a way to get the particular task done. From then on, when that task comes up, it gets done that way. Unfortunately, “that way” may not be the fastest, easiest. or most efficient way to get the job done.

kamper.com‘s depth of experience in business and computers enables us to point out more effective uses of your current computer system and software. Or are you considering an upgrade? Training for you and/or your staff, whether transitional or introductory, learning new methods or techniques or being introduced to new software, also maximizes your Return On Investment

What’s our procedure?

Corporate Learning

Individual Instruction

Initial Assessment:

First, we conduct an employee survey to establish current computer use/experience.

We then establish your company’s baseline needs; does everyone use the computer to the same degree? What is the minimum everyone has to know?

Employees are grouped for baseline instruction according to their current ease of  use; the end result is that everyone has the same basic computer knowledge.

Focused Training Sessions:

Each job position is assessed to determine how the computer supports it. Classes are designed to focus on the specific features and tasks required. Where appropriate, the use of (or need for) templates, macros, and other task automation aids is noted and recommended.

First we ask:

Our first task is to assess your current level of familiarity. Are you comfortable when you sit down at the computer? Do you dread it because you’re never really sure you’re in charge? Do things “just happen?” Do you “lose” documents or files?

Then we ask about your “end product.” Why are you using a computer -- what are you trying to accomplish? What program are you using? Which features?

Knowing that, we design a series of graduated instructional sessions for you. Each session pinpoints specific needs.

Because individual instruction can be intense, it is important not to overload  the learner. Sessions are kept to a maximum of three hours, frequently less, and continue until you reach the level of competence most useful for your needs.

Instruction in these (and other) programs is offered:

Microsoft products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FrontPage and Publisher.
Corel
products: WordPerfect, QuattroPro, Presentations, CorelDRAW! and Corel PhotoPAINT.
Adobe
products: PageMaker, Framemaker, PhotoShop, and Illustrator.
Other
programs: QuarkXPress, NetObjects Fusion, PaintShop Pro, and more.

This is only a partial list. Call us for specifics about individual or corporate instruction in other programs. Is an upgrade in your future? Ask about training to ease you (or your company) through the experience.
